Biomes of the world
– Biomes are a group of ecosystems that are characterized for having their own animal and vegetable species, adapted to the reigning soil and climate.
– The main terrestrial biomes are the tundra, taiga, temperate forests, grasslands, Mediterranean shrublands (chaparral), deserts and tropical rainforests.

The tundra
– The tundra is located from the polar regions down to 70º latitude, spanning almost 20,000 square kilometers.
– The tundra’s soil is characterized for having a permanently frozen inner layer dubbed permafrost.
– Presently, oil is the resource that is most exploited by Man in the tundra.

The taiga
– The taiga is located between 60º and 70º north latitude, beneath the tundra and exclusively in the northern hemisphere.
– The taiga’s vegetation is dominated by conifers, like pines, firs and spruces.
– Standouts among the taiga’s animals are otters, stoats, skunks, martens, beavers, bears, wolves, reindeer and moose
