Latvia

Located in northern Europe, it is bounded to the north by Estonia, to the east by Russia, to the south by Belarus and Lithuania, and to the west by the Baltic Sea.

Most of its territory is flat, covered by earth and mud deposits, and there are vast areas covered by conifer forests, moors and marshes.

There are many lakes (over 1,000), swamps and rivers such as the Daugava.

Summers are rainy and winter temperatures may occasionally drop to -40º C. Latvians have Indo-European roots and nearly 32% of the current inhabitants are Russian.

Latvia’s economy is sustained mainly by industry and agriculture.
