We owe a great part of the chemical balance of our body to the urinary apparatus. It is in charge of regulating a series of substances found in the blood, besides selecting useless ones in order to later eliminate them through urine.

Although for many the formation of this waste liquid is the most important task of the urinary apparatus, we must point out that it is not its only task. It is also in charge of regulating the pH (degree of alkalinity or acidity of a substance) of blood, eliminating hydrogen ions (molecules secreted by acids) and incorporating bicarbonate ions (capable of balancing and offsetting acidity).

But its work is also directly related to blood pressure. This, because renin is a substance secreted by the kidneys and is capable of increasing the amount of water and salts present in the blood, causing the narrowing of the blood vessels and affecting the pressure of the blood that passes through them. Even the most important organs of this apparatus (the kidneys) eliminate excess salt and water, maintain the volume and composition of blood and perform hormonal tasks. They are in charge of liberating erythropoietin, hormone that foments the creation of red blood cells and helps synthesize vitamin D.
