He was born on January 19yh of 1914 in Ferrara, Italy, his parents were Giuseppe Angelini and Adalguisa Fabbri. In 1936, he moved along with his progenitor and his two brothers, Gino and Arturo, to Eritrea (Africa) – which had been annexed to Italy by Benito Mussolini – to study commerce.
In that place, they dedicated to business, selling wheat, flour and coffee. However, in 1941, the British evicted the Italian forces and Angelini was taken prisoner in a concentration camp, from where he achieved to escape in a ship towards Italy, but upon arriving, he encountered a country in ruins.
Due to this, at age 34, he decided to travel to America, arriving in Santiago to establish a paint factory which he called Tajamar. Later, along with his Italian friend Antonio Franchini, he began the construction of buildings. In that time, he contacted the Italian colony, where he met Marta Noseda Zambra, to whom he got married in 1959. They didn’t have any children.
In addition, he brought his brother Gino and established for him the Café del Artista (Coffee of the Artist), in the downtown area of Santiago. Soon after, he started to diversify his business, opening a locksmith plant and managing the property in the country called La Fortuna, in Curico.
By 1953, he entered the fishing business moving to Arica and buying a small fishing company called Eperva, a property that belonged to Ricardo Varenne. Due to the great success that it had, it was soon the main exporter of flour and fish of the country and dominated almost the 70% of this business in the north of Chile.
In 1958, he entered the forest area, investing in forest plantations in Mulchen. After that, in 1966, he bought the society Maderas Prensadas Cholguán.
Likewise, in the 70’s, they got into the insurance business with the company Cruz del Sur, which was founded along Benjamin Davis.
In the mid 80’s he entered into the area of gas after acquiring the 41% of the Compañía de Petróleos de Chile (Copec) (Petroleum Company of Chile). He also invested in the dairy industry with Soprole and Copalca; Anagra (oil); the AFP Summa and the deposit Sancarron and the fishery Iquique.
In the energy area, he bought in the 90’s the distributors Saesa and Frontel, in addition to have participation in the Compañía General de Electricidad (CGE) (General Company of Electricity). In 1994, president Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle gave him the Chilean nationality by grace.
He died in Santiago, on august 28th of 2007. Angelini, until the time of his death, he always kept a low profile and a sober life, although in 2007, the Forbes magazine classified him in the 119th place worldwide, thus being the greatest millionaire of Chile and South America.
