The CAR is bounded to the north and northwest by Chad, to the east and northeast by Sudan, to the south by the Democratic Republic of Congo and by the Republic of Congo, and to the southwest by Cameroon. Most of its territory is a highland ranging between 600 and 800 meters above sea level. The climate is tropical – equatorial and the main ethnic groups are the Baya-Mandja and the Banda. Urban areas take in 43% of the population. The main source of income is diamond exporting.
