However, only two thirds of the island are recognised internationally, as in 1974 the northern third was occupied by Turkey, which established the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (recognised only by Turkey). The Executive branch is headed by the President, who is head of both Government and State.
There is a unicameral Parliament, the House of Representatives (71 members), and the Judicial authority is the Supreme Court. Northern Cyprus has an independent administration.
