Estonia is located in the northeastern region of Europe and is the smallest of the Baltic states (independent from the former USSR since 1991). It is bounded to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the east by the Russian Federation, and to the south by Latvia. Its geography is mainly flat and low. The most important sector of the economy is industry.
