This is a state in the western part of South America with shores on the Pacific, and crossed by the Equator. It is bounded to the north by Colombia, to the south and east by Peru and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. It includes the famous Galapagos Islands, located 1,120 km to the west of the coast. Ecuador’s geography is divided into three areas: the coast, the sierra and the Amazonian plains.
The population is fundamentally made up of two groups: Mestizos and Amerindians.

Its economy is mainly based on agriculture, with products such as bananas, flowers, cocoa, sugarcane, cotton and maize. 

In addition, petroleum represents almost half of Ecuador’s exports.
