This country is bounded to the north by Honduras and to the northeast by El Salvador, to the south by Costa Rica, to the east by the Caribbean Sea and to the west by the Pacific Ocean.
The climate is warm and humid on the eastern coast and much dryer in the west.
Its inhabitants, mostly of mixed European and indigenous descent (Mestizos), are irregularly spread across the territory, although 57% of the population lives in urban areas.
The main source of income is agriculture, accompanied by forestry, fishing and gold mining.
The president, vice president and the cabinet constitute Executive power. Legislative power is exercised by the National Assembly (93 members) and Judicial power by the Supreme Court.
